Al bijna twee decennia onderzoekt de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Sam Durant de wisselwerking tussen taal en betekenis. Illustratief hiervoor zijn Durants grootschalige lichtboxen die hij sinds 2001 produceert. De gebruikte statements zijn afkomstig uit een persoonlijk archief van foto’s van protestmarsen, sit-ins of manifestaties van de vroege twintigste eeuw tot vandaag. De slogan 'Another World is Possible', die diende als basis van deze editie, refereert naar de anti-Trump protestmars in Philadelphia in 2016 waar duizenden mensen dagenlang protesteerden tegen de verkiezing van de president-elect Donald Trump. In de huidige context stimuleert het ontegensprekelijk tot een verkenning van de status quo.
For nearly two decades, American artist Sam Durant has explored the interplay between language and meaning. Illustrative of this are the large-scale light boxes Durant has been producing since 2001. The statements used come from a personal archive of photographs of protest marches, sit-ins or demonstrations from the early twentieth century to today. The slogan "Another World is Possible," which served as the basis of this edition, refers to the anti-Trump protest March in Philadelphia in 2016 where thousands of people protested for days on end against the election of President-elect Donald Trump. In the current context, it undeniably encourages an exploration of the status quo.
