Bárbara Prada (geboren in 1990 in Lima, Peru en woont in Brussel, België) omschrijft zichzelf als een ecofeministische kunstenares. Veel van Prada's werk tot nu toe verkent onze relatie met voeding en hoe het onze sociale ecologie en identiteit kan bepalen. Ze beschouwt samenwerkingen als een strategie voor conversatie. Aan de ene kant is het een oerverbinding, aangezien voedsel ons als soort in stand houdt. Anderzijds is voedsel interessant als artistiek materiaal en als communicatiemiddel.
Tijdens haar residentie in de School van Gaasbeek in juni, werkte Prada aan de ontwikkeling van het project Appropriation & Reappropriation. Met een focus op de huidige klimaatnoodsituatie, reflecteert ze over zowel de drijfveren als de impact van de vierde industriële revolutie (4IR). Prada reflecteert in dit project over de drang van het industrialisme en hoe deze onze menselijke relatie met, en gehechtheid aan, de identiteit en geschiedenis van de natuurlijke wereld zal beïnvloeden.
Kippeneieren zonder kippen, in het laboratorium gekweekte hamburgers en robotbestuivers: de ongetwijfeld briljante technologische "oplossingen" van Silicon Valley (en andere innovatiehubs) voor de milieuproblemen van vandaag. Deze problemen zijn echter fundamenteel publiek van aard, en de stormloop van privé-investeerders resulteert in een complexe wisselwerking tussen duurzaamheidsdoelstellingen en toe-eigeningsrisico's.

De residentie werd gesteund door de Spaanse Ambassade, het FabLab van Lissabon en Flanders State of Art. Bárbara Prada zal het eindresultaat van de residentie presenteren op het Wunderkammer Festival dat op 1 oktober 2022 plaatsvindt in Cc Strombeek.

Une grande partie du travail de Prada jusqu'à présent a exploré notre relation avec la nourriture et comment elle peut définir notre écologie sociale et notre identité. Elle considère les collaborations comme une stratégie de conversation. D'une part, le lien est primordial, puisque la nourriture est ce qui nous permet de subsister en tant qu'espèce. D'autre part, la nourriture est intéressante comme matériau artistique et comme moyen de communication.
Pendant sa résidence à l'école de Gaasbeek en juin, Prada a travaillé sur le développement du projet Appropriation & Reappropriation. En se concentrant sur l'un des nombreux problèmes de l'urgence climatique, elle réfléchit à la fois aux moteurs et à l'impact de la quatrième révolution industrielle (4IR). Prada explore où la volonté de l'industrialisme, en cherchant à résoudre les problèmes de sa propre création, nous mènera et comment cela aura un impact sur notre relation et notre attachement à l'identité et à l'histoire du monde naturel.
Œufs sans poules, hamburgers produits en laboratoire et pollinisateurs robotisés : les "solutions" technologiques sans aucun doute brillantes de la Silicon Valley (et d'autres pôles d'innovation) aux problèmes environnementaux actuels. Ces problèmes sont toutefois fondamentalement publics par nature, et la ruée des investisseurs privés entraîne une interaction complexe entre les objectifs de durabilité et les risques d'appropriation.

Bárbara Prada (°1990, Lima, Peru and lives in Brussels, Belgium) describes herself as an ecofeminist artist. Much of Prada’s work to date has explored our relationship with food and how it can define our social ecology and identity. She considers collaborations as a strategy for conversation. On the one hand, the connection is primal, since food is what sustains us as a species. On the other hand, food is interesting as an artistic material and as a communication device.
During her residency at the School of Gaasbeek in June, Prada worked on the development of the project Appropriation & Reappropriation. Focusing on one of the many issues of the climate emergency, she reflects on both the drivers and the impact of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). Prada explores where the drive of industrialism, in seeking to solve the problems of its own creation, will lead us and how this will impact our relationship with and attachment to the identity and history of the natural world.
Chicken-free eggs, lab-grown burgers, and robotic pollinators: the undoubtedly brilliant technological “solutions” of Silicon Valley (and other innovation hubs) to the environmental problems of today. These problems are however fundamentally public in nature, and the rush of private investors results in a complex interplay between sustainability goals and appropriation risks.
